This is a smaller group activity that can be done with your local group of volunteers, to provide hope, light and encouragement to those who are incarcerated.
Each person is provided:
- A list of names: these are penpals inside who do not have an assigned penpal
- A list of address for the prison
- A list of instructions and suggestions of what to write.
Hey, why do you tell us what to write?
People are not always aware of how what they say will affect someone in prison. They know they have done wrong, they are being punished, they don’t need additional shame or reminders of what they are missing out on. They are reminded of those things daily. We are trying to encourage them, and help them maintain a positive outlook while they are in there.
